This is an extremely exciting period of your life and may be one of the most rewarding!
But, unfortunately, American culture has conditioned women to believe that pregnancy should be miserable and birth should be feared.
Guess what? It doesn’t have to be that way!
Chiropractic care during pregnancy can help make pregnancy more comfortable, more enjoyable, and prepare the body for an easier, smoother and safer birth.
By ensuring that optimal nervous system and spinal function.
Wait…what??
Well…Chiropractic is intended to address the intimate relationship between the spine, pelvis, and nervous system.
If you are pregnant or have been pregnant, you know that your body transforms dramatically during pregnancy, whether it is structurally (increased weight gain, change in posture, or common aches and pains), chemically (hormones which relax stabilizing ligaments) and emotionally.
Despite what you may be thinking, these changes are crucial for growth, development, and arrival of baby, but, unfortunately, they can also interfere with other areas of your life.
Common collateral damage from these changes include aches and pain (low back, sciatica, pubic bone, tailbone, etc.), digestive disorders (reflux, heartburn, constipation, etc.), overall wellness (fatigue, sleep, emotional swings, etc.), and even disruptions of normal birth (baby’s position, onset or progression of labor).
Absolutely!
Chiropractic care is a safe, gentle, and non-invasive approach to correcting and stabilizing the spine and pelvis. By ensuring proper alignment and motion of the spine and pelvis throughout pregnancy, chiropractic care assists the body in functioning optimally and ultimately, improve your quality of life and potentially birth outcomes.
Now, once baby arrives, chiropractic care can be utilized to assist the body in recovering and adapting to the new physical and emotional challenges of motherhood/postpartum - momma’s, we have not forgotten about you!
Because chiropractic care for children can help with proper development and/or challenges like breastfeeding, digestion, comfort, sleep, and immune function.
The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association is a great resource, filled with research and articles that further explain the important role chiropractic plays in prenatal care. Dr. Harris is Certified in the Webster-Technique and has extensive training and clinical experience working with pregnant women.
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and correction. The goal of this correction is to reduce the effects of sacral distortion/SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated.
Shifts in the sacrum may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (ie. dystocia), cause by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contractions, and baby mal-position. Correction of the sacral shifts may have a positive effect on all of these cause of dystocia.
While you can start care at any time during your pregnancy, we encourage you to come in as soon as you know you’re pregnant. But even if you don’t begin chiropractic care until later in your pregnancy, you can still experience benefits.
