Look... No Hands: Sitting-Rising Test

Look... No Hands: Sitting-Rising Test

I’m sure you have seen this silly looking test floating around the internet. You know the one I’m talking about…where you simply go from seated to standing.

Simple, right??

Not so much…Researchers suggests that this Sitting-Rising Test is a strong predictor for your health and longevity as you age.

What they exactly found was that from a study of 2000 individuals over the age of 50 that performed this test and then subsequently followed for 6.3 years was…

  • Those who scored three points or fewer had five to six times higher risk of death than those scoring more than eight points.
  • A score below eight was linked with two to fivefold higher death rates over the study period

I bet you are wondering how you would do…Well here is how the scoring works:Each of the two basic movements (sitting and standing) is scored out of five, combined for a total score of 10.

One point gets subtracted for each support used such as a hand or knee and half a point is subtracted for a loss of balance.

STR Test

So by now you have probably attempted to do this (if you were like me, several attempts were made) and you are asking yourself what does this mean.

I shared this test with you to let you know that high levels of body mobility, muscle strength, power and coordination are not only essential for performing daily activities but also indicate an improvement in life expectancy.

Additionally, sufficient daily movement (leading to increased and improved mobility, strength, power and coordination) is a REQUIREMENT for the body to function optimally.

Remember your body was designed to MOVE, so what strategies are you implementing to increase your Mobility, Stability, Strength and Condition?

Incorporating a strategy into your life aids in supporting the work at TruCentered Chiropractic Care to aid you in getting the best results possible.

Now I’m curious….What did you score on the Sitting-Rising Test?
