The two most common questions we get from our new clients are:
- "Why don’t I get a spinal adjustment every visit?"
- "Why do I need to checked so often if I am not getting adjusted?"
To answer the first question, the reason you don’t get an adjustment every visit is simply because you don’t NEED an adjustment every visit. Unlike traditional chiropractors, that lead you to believe that the adjustment is what heals you, this couldn’t be further from the truth. (If the adjustment heals you then all we would do is have our clients stay overnight and adjust them a million times and they would then be the healthiest people on the planet…Silly, right?)
The TRUTH is that healing occurs when your upper cervical spine is stabilized, fortified and ultimately “holding”. When the upper cervical spine is holding the appropriate position for an extended period of time is what allows the body to rebuild and heal.
Our procedures and instrumentation allows us to determine whether your vertebra is sitting in the proper position or not. If it is not, then we will move forward and correcting it. Once the adjustment is made, your body should hold that correction in place. As your atlas (upper cervical spine) maintains proper alignment, signals begin to flow, uninterrupted, from your brainstem to every organ, cell, and tissue in your body. THIS IS HOW YOUR BODY TRULY HEALS!
Now for the second question, the reason why we check clients frequently in the beginning is simply because we do not know how long you are going to be able to hold that correction. It may hold for two hours or two weeks. The ONLY way to know is to check you.
So, what do we do if you’re atlas is holding its proper position? LEAVE IT ALONE!
By getting checked more often in the beginning of your care, you can be assured that your spine will stay in its proper position.
STABILIZATION AND FORTIFICATION is the KEY to HEALING.
When this happens, your body is capable of tapping into its healing abilities. However, when care becomes inconsistent (especially in the beginning of care), opportunities begin to present where your alignment can go from ideal to less than ideal, leading to disease again.
Lastly, many clients believe they can predict when they need an adjustment by the way they feel. For example…
“Doc, I feel great today so I don’t need to come in.”
OR
“I have a massive headache today; I know I need an adjustment.”
These are CRUCIAL MISTAKES! How you feel has nothing to do with whether or not you need an adjustment. Long-term shifts in your spine creates scar tissue to form around the brainstem. This can lead to one to experience secondary conditions. As your structures are fortified and the body repairs the scarring, your health begins to improve. Because of scar tissue damage you can still have pain but be HOLDING your alignment.
Just know…HOLDING IS HEALING
